Using nature to reduce flooding.

As part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme a trial is scheduled, in partnership with the Environment Agency (EA) and University of Leeds, to look at how nature help reduce the risk of flooding.

The aim of the scheme, which is being launched at the Brownlee Triathlon Centre, is to test out natural solutions and inspire others to do the same.

The 5 urban pilot sites will be used for academic research and development of different techniques including wetlands, woodland creation and leaky barriers.

Work on the sites is due to start at the end of the year and will be undertaken within the current government guidelines for social distancing.

We look forward to monitoring this space and seeing what more we can learn from nature.
