The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The dRHI has now closed to applicants. The government have replaced this scheme with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

The scheme differs from the dRHI in that it provides a lump sum amount to reduce the upfront cost of installing a low carbon heating system. £6000 is available towards ground source heat pumps.

For existing housing stock, a valid EPC will still be required for eligibility to the scheme. This EPC must show no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation. This is because your heating system will work more efficiently with these insulation measures in place. You can check if your property has a valid EPC here.

New build properties are not eligible for the grant but custom build properties are.

A property meets the ‘Custom Build’ requirement where the building—

(a) was built principally with the use of the labour or resources of the first owner (including where the resource was a loan which the first owner was liable to repay), and

(b) has not, while it was built or at any subsequent time been owned wholly or partly by a person who is not an individual.
