Water Saving – gardeners urged not to use sprinklers in evenings.

Industry body Water UK has urged gardeners to avoid using sprinklers in the evening as dry weather (we have just experienced the driest May since 1896) and lockdown are driving high demand for water.

While Water UK stressed there is no shortage of water, everyone using more at the same time can lead to low water pressure out of taps.

There has been a huge rise in demand from households in the evenings with rises of between 20% and 40% above normal.

Water UK suggests that if gardeners avoided using sprinklers at peak demand times in the evening, this would make a great difference to the water pressure.

The body have also stressed that people should continue to follow the current COVID-19 guidance and wash their hands regularly.

Other water saving tips include:

– taking shorter showers

– using an ECO setting on the dishwasher and washing machine, and only setting them off when they are full.

– reuse paddling pool water on flowerbeds

– do not leave taps on while washing hands or brushing teeth
