Water Treatment

You are here: Home / Boreholes / Water Treatment

We offer a wide range of water treatment equipment for both domestic and commercial installations, ranging from single point of use treatment up to whole house treatment systems. We also supply a range of spares for existing water treatment systems.

WATER SOFTENERS: These remove the hard water salts from you water and prevent limescale forming and associated problems such as:

> staining on taps and sanitary wear

> calcium build up on heating elements such as immersion heaters, kettles and shower heads

> inflammation of Eczema and other sensitive skin conditions

Water passes through the main chamber of the softener where resin beads collect the hard walter salts. The softened water is passed back into the system for use in the home.

After time, the resin will become full and so regeneration is required. A brine solution is drawn up and passed over the resin beads which releases the hard water salts. These are then flushed away and the resin is ready to start its collection again. The regenration is usually timed to occur at night when no softened water is required.

As water softeners use a brine solution during the regeneration cycle, the brine tank must be kept topped up with salt tablets. This should be checked periodically to ensure that there are sufficient salt tablets to allow the system to regenrate properly They should be checked on an annual basis to ensure the motorised valve is operating correctly.

PRE-FILTERS: These are sediment filters, designed to remove sediment from the water supply, mainly from wells and water supply boreholes. They are normally combined with Ultra Violet filters to protect against bacteriological elements in the water.

The cartridges used in pre-filters come in a number of ranges designed to ‘catch’ any debris from the water and prevent it from entering the end use pipework. It is important to install filters prior to a Ultra Violet filter as it prevent bacteriological elements from ‘hiding’ behind the debris and therefore not being killed by the Ultra Violet rays.

the cartridges will require replacing after a period of time as they can become clogged with debris. The frequency of this is determined by the chemical composition of the water. We would reccommend they are replaced annually to ensure satisfactory operation of the filter.

We also supply single point of use filters to reduce limescale, heavy metals and nitrates from mains water supplies, which can have a negative effect on taste. We also supply single point reverse osmosis units which can, in most cases, proved a drinking water tap that complies with the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2016.

ULTRA VIOLET FILTERS: Sometimes known as UV sterilisers, these filters are designed to kill any bacteria found in water. They are most commonly used on water supplies from wells and water supply boreholes to ensure a safe drinking water supply.

The water is passed through the main body of the filter which contains a number of UV lamps protected by quartz tubes. The UV light from these lamps has an intensity of 30mJ/cm2 which is sufficient to kill any bacteria as it passes through, resulting in sterilised water. As there are no chemicals involved in this particular process, there is no risk of ‘overdosing’ or the filter affecting the taste of the water.

The lamps in UV units require replacing annually and the quartz tubes should be inspected and cleaned at this time. Subject to the chemical makeup of the water passing through the unit, the quartz tubes may require inspection and cleaning more regularly.

We offer a range of domestic and commercial UV filters along with spares and replacement lamps. All UV filters we supply are stainless steel and WRAS approved.

REVERSE OSMISIS UNITS: Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Systems produce very high quality drinking water and are the most effective method of removing contaminants from water in the domestic environment.

Though reverse osmosis systems can vary with the number of stages, in general they comprise :

>A pre filter to stop particles

>A cartridge to act against chlorine and protect the membrane

>A membrane through which the clean water passes

>A post filter

>A storage tank

>A self piercing pipe connector

>A separate tap

Some reverse Osmosis units include a pump which is essential where water pressure could be slightly low.

If you have any specific requirements, please do not hesitate to contact our water treatment team who will be happy to discuss them with you.
