NOTE: THE RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE (RHI) FOR DOMESTIC APPLICATONS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 2013 On the 25th September, the REA held a ‘How To’ workshop for those applying for the RHI. While this was aimed at the commercial sector, it provided a good opportunity for us to understand the challenges customers may face when…
With temperatures set to remain at least in the mid 20’s for the next month, there is talk of hosepipe bans and plenty of advice coming from the water companies about how to reduce your water consumption. Uncertainly is evident as some water companies are saying that currently ground water levels are ‘robust’ due…
The demand for water is rising by 2% every year. Water is widely regarded as an asset and becomes ‘waste’ once used. Given the rapidly rising demand for water it is imperative that we strive to make our water usage more efficient and reuse waste water where possible. ‘Future of Water’ released in 2018 by…

Hi I currently hold the Logic Solar threaml full scope certificate which i took at the Baxi Dartford training centre & I have a couple of questions regarding my qualification.I am now starting to get some enquiries into solar panels but as of yet I have not been fitting any as I am led to believe that I now have to be MCS qualified as well, is this correct? Also that the forthcoming (RHI) renewable heat incentive is only going to be available to members of the MCS scheme. If this is not correct & I do not have to belong to MCS how can i go about notifying for building control notice? Is there a competent persons scheme for this or can i just do it through the Gas Safe register? Hope someone can help me with this query.Regards Nick Owen
Dear Nick,
As far as I understand it, for any installation to be eligible for the RHI both the product (eg: the solar thermal panels) and the installer (you) must be MCS accredited. Please note, that if you are talking about Solar Panel installations (for electricity production), these are not eligible for RHI, but may be eligible for the Feed-in Tariff (FIT).
Further information regarding MCS accreditation can be found at:http://www.microgenerationcertification.org/
Further information regarding the RHI can be found at: http://www.rhincentive.co.uk/
Further information regarding the FIT can be found at: http://www.fitariffs.co.uk/
I hope this information was useful to you. Please advise me if any of the information I have given you is incorrect.
Kind regards,
Rebecca Taylor
