World-class facility creates new opportunities for geothermal energy in Cheshire

The British Geological Survey has opened the UK Geoenergy Observatory in Cheshire. The £8.3 million facility opened its doors on 8th October 2024 and is pioneering in the UK to explore the potential of using geothermal energy to decarbonisation.

The observatory will provide researchers and industry with access to at-scale experimental infrastructure and comes after Labour’s announcement in July 2024 of their intent to support GB energy and strive for a decarbonised power grid by 2030. To read the full article from the BGS, click here.
