Green Deal or No Deal event at the House of Commons

On Wednesday 26th February, H.D.Services were delighted to attend the Green Deal or No Deal event held at the House of Commons.

After spending an hour queing to get through security, having expected this to take only 20 minutes as stated on the invitation, we were anxious to get to the Pavillion Terrace and see what was what.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a champagne reception, lovely canapés and a beautiful view across the Thames of the London Eye.

Having taken in the beauty of where we were, (and discussed the potential lack of energy efficiency of the House of Commons itself) we were called in for the event to begin.

Based around the premis of the television programme ‘Deal or No Deal’ the idea of the event was to explain to MPs and industry professionals alike the aim and importance of the Green Deal. The 9 speakers each had a box which was opened as they explained their role in the Green Deal process. From Green Deal providers – who offer the finance for energy saving improvements – to the suppliers and installers of the said improvements, each speaker clearly identified the need for their role, explained what it was and highlighted their view on the importance of the Green Deal in not only making homes in the UK more energy efficient, but also its use as a tool to aid those in fuel poverty to be able to make the necessary improvements to the efficiency of their home and thus reduce their heating bills – with no upfront cost.

In all, the event clearly identified the aims, practicalities and needs for the Green Deal and highlighted to all the significant benefits that the scheme has to offer the end user and scheme members alike. It also highlighted the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) – something that H.D. Services will be investigating further and including in our blog in comming weeks.

Following the Green Deal or No Deal event, the Green Deal and ECO handbook was launched by the Rt Hon. Greg Barker MP.  Devised by Greener Times Publishing, the handbook is a guide to the facts behind the governments Green Deal policy and energy efficiency scheme launched in 2013. The idea is to help people make more informed decisions about the energy they use and the energy efficiency improvements that can be made to their households. It explains the make-up of an energy bill, shows how prices are likely to change and explores what we can do to help tackle rising energy costs. Most of all it presents facts about the Green Deal, Energy Company Obligation and Energy efficiency rather than opinion.

H.D. Services Ltd have an article published in the handbook entitled “Money Matters: RHI and GSHP’s” which explains the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the benefits of Ground Source Heat Pumps and the opportunities for repayment through the RHI scheme. This article will be available on the H.D. Geothermal website soon.

H.D.Services is also the business supporting the South East England section of the 2014/15 regional Green Deal Directory.

The Green Deal and ECO handbook is available from the Big Green Book stand at most of the large home shows. Please follow this link for further information on the Big Green Book and their attendance at upcoming shows: Big Green Book
